Hi! Our next meeting is in three weeks (I think) and wondered if anyone had any thoughts about Parenting Matters. I must be honest and say that it is really difficult to drag myself out at night without something somewhat compelling. Not that we have to do this course, but I always feel better if I've helped someone or been helped. I'm always tired and can think of a million things to do instead (anyone else fit this description:)?). I know, practical to a fault.
Also, any preference on the date of the PMA fieldtrip?
Thanks!

Cryptid Craze
Hi everyone,
this Saturday, I'll be taking my clan to the Cryptid Museum in Portland along with Mary Fallon who some of you know through Little Flowers. I am happy to take any of your kids who would like to go. I'll have room for four more in my van. Stacy, I know we talked about George going awhile back.
We've got to tighten up on the time but I'm thinking leaving fairly early like 8:30 to finish by noon. I may stay in Portland for a few errands; hopefully this won't be a conflict for anyone. If anyone would like to join us rather than send their kids with me that would be wonderful, too!

PMA in January
I'm going to schedule the visit with the docent on either Jan. or 15th, and I'll do it in early December, so if you're calendar is more available one of those nights than the other, let me know.
Thank you!
Thank you!

All Saints Day party
Hi everyone,
I'm fishing for numbers as to how many will be here for All Saints Day.
I'll be making a pot of homegrown pork chili with all the usual garnishes and a pot of rice for an early dinner.
Bring a snack for before hand if you feel like it. If it's nice out, we'll put snacks outside so the Saints can run around and eat as needed. After they get their jollies out, we'll do the saint guessing game or vice versa. I don't care. However it rolls out.
Dinner around 3:30-4ish although people can eat whenever they want. I'll keep it hot.
See you then!

PMA, November 2????
Hi Friends!
Heard from Molly at PMA yesterday and she said that in order to get a docent, we need to reserve three weeks in advance. Sorry about this. Part of me feels like, in order to make the most of a trip like this (big expenditure of energy for this sleep deprived mom), we should have docent, which would push the trip up to January. What are your thoughts?

Civil War author and historian Blaikie Hines will be giving an interactive talk on what it was like to go off to war, to be a soldier, and the equipment that they had. For those who do not know Blaikie, he is a character. He is a Civil War re-enactor , will be dressed the part, and bringing the items that a Union soldier would have had/ needed. This is open to homeschoolers of all ages. November 12th 2-4 pm in Union, Maine. FMI call Todd Caverly @ 542-5244. Please, due to a few of the details you must RSVP for this event.
Any interest, people?

November 2 = PMA
So, still have to clear with Conor, but yes the PMA is free Friday from 5-9, except for the featured exhibit, which is $5 / person. Shall we try to meet at 5:00 at the museum and grab a slice after or vice versa, or brown bag dinner it. I hope it's nice. I know it will be dark, but it would be fun to do a quick evening walk in the city.
I just requested the following book on interlibrary loan and noticed that there are about 3-4 copies in the Maine system if any of you want to check one out too: Winslow Homer at the Portland Museum of Art

Art Museum Field Trip Idea
Hi,
I found this very good looking fieldtrip idea on the link below. The University of Maine art museum in Augusta had a nice art appretiation and art making trip for another Maine homeschool group. If anyone is interested, I can try to contact Eva there, and see if we could get our group in for the same experience. We can get it set up for sometime in the winter if you all like, so it is spaced a bit apart from our Art Museum trip in Portland......is it still set for November 2?
Check it out:

Fall Fun!!
We had a great time yesterday at the DRA with David Moses Bridges. We came home with some sweet brich pictures that I wasnt to send to grandparents for Christmas, but which have a higher chance of being lost or cracked before they ever get in the mail...
Janine or Stacy will have to post photos, cause I'm too far gone in babydome to manage to plug the camera into the computer right now...
What are plan for the meeting? All Saints?
One thing I do know is that I must start getting orginzed about the Advent play "BUB or The Very Best Thing" There are many great little kids parts, so please throw your kids hat in the ring if they want to participate. I'll get Thalia to do the script and we'll send that out before our one rehursal before party day. Participants need to get here early (2 pm?) on party day to do our dress rehursal. If you think I take this all too seriously...I do...but you will have to put up with one show a year from me. I'm sure in the end you will all grow in holiness because of my behavior! HAHAHAHA!

Location of Meetings
If it increases the liklihood of people coming and all agree that we would like to do the Parenting Matters course, could we consider meeting in people's homes? We could meet at our house, or if it's easier for you Stacy, we could meet at your house. Something to consider to incentives us to meet.

wabanaki
Hi everyone,
Meghan has paid for the group (DRA wanted one check) and the time has been changed from 2:30 to 2:00 , (still October 9th) which is better. Meghan and I are going to meet at the playground (I assume the Damariscotta one and will let you know if different) around12:45 for a picnic and play before the DRA that day if anyone wants to join us.
I didn't post this earlier-it was word of mouth-so if anyone missed out and wants to join the group for the Wabanaki teaching field trip, let me know, and I'll pass it along to Meghan who made the arrangments.
See you then.

monthly meetings
Hi all! Was talking to some of you moms last week and someone brought up the idea of topics for our monthly meetings. While I had thought of a few topics, it was merely to fill in the void--I wasn't inspired by anything. I have a great parenting class that's 9 sessions long, about 75 minutes each. I was thinking of hosting it at our house, but couldn't find any parctical space in the calendar for an extra night. Janine mentioned showing the DVDs during our monthly meetings and following it up with prayer for our children and trouble shooting. The program is called Parenting Matters and the website is characterhealth.com (I believe). It's not Catholic perse, but has great principles that any parent can benefit from.
