Final count for the Abbey?

Good fieldtrip by the sea today. The weather and friendship were GREAT! We have a plan to call Dr.Bob in the Spring to do another biology by the sea class. Remind me ;)

Next, weekend trip to the Abbey. Anyone know the final count of who-all are coming?
Can't wait to BE there!

field trip reminder

Hi Friends,
Just a quick reminder that we are meeting at Giant Stairs entrance in Harpswell for an outdoor Biology Field Trip. DRESS WARMLY and wear non-slip boots or shoes. Gloves are a good idea- even rubber gloves would help. We will have a group picnic afterwards, depending on the weather we may head to Nelsons for an indoor picnic. So bring your lunches and thermos.
I would like to give Bob a Dunkin Donuts gift card as thanks for being out in this cold weather for this field trip, so if you'd like to contribute bring a few dollars to pitch in. I plan to bring a card for all to sign too.

Sisters on Oprah

I just got this in my email--we can watch Oprah on line for those of us with no TV!
The Dominican Sisters of Mary will be featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Tuesday, November 23rd.

This is a new show that includes interviews with Mother Assumpta, Sr. Joseph Andrew, Sr. Mary Samuel, Sr. John Dominic and other Sisters; as well as on-site filming of the First and Final Profession Masses and this year’s Entrance Day, during which we welcomed 22 Aspirants.

The show will feature the experience of a Sister entering religious life and the meaning of religious profession as being ‘married’ to Christ.

You may recall that Oprah first reached out to our community on February 9th of this year due to an interest in the hidden aspects of religious life.

The response from the first show was so positive that the Sisters were asked if we would be open to another opportunity to share our life. We have accepted this invitation in the hopes of reaching an audience we might not otherwise reach with the witness of our life and the Gospel. Please join us in praying that the show will be for the good of souls and the honor of God.

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, let us give thanks to God for His bountiful goodness. May God bless you and your families during this holiday season.

In Jesus and Mary,

The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist

The retreat date, which was recently changes to the 3rd weekend in Advent, is now changed BACK to the 2nd weekend in ADVENT! AHHHH! It makes no difference to us, but other families may be more able to come the 3-5 rather than the 10-12.

Artist Trading Cards Update

Well--I just had my first Artist Trading Card party, and it was very fun! Here are more details from the blog for anyone who may want to do this today or tomorrow--she said post marked by the 5th, but if it takes a bit longer that's ok--read Monday the 7th. . . hahahaha!
Hi Allison,
Great to have you joining! Here is the info:
Dear Readers,
Thank you for your interest in the All Saints Artist Trading Card Swap!

Here are the details for you.-

Each participating person is to make five ATC cards of his or her favorite saints and will receive five new cards in return. I will be collecting the cards, matching them up roughly by age group/ability, and resending out the cards to their new recipients.

An Artist Trading Card is 2.5 x 3.5 inches (6.35 x 8.89 cm). You can buy ready made cards at a craft or art supply store, or you can of course cut your own. Any type of heavy paper like water color paper or heavy card stock works well - they should be heavier than regular copier paper. If you cut your own try to keep the size to the specified measurements -many people collect ATC’s and like them to be all be the same size so they fit properly in whatever holders they use. We usually cut our own using a paper cutter out of 9x12" watercolor paper - you can get ten cards out of a sheet.

Artists of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate – children as well as grown! Many moms (and a few Dads!) have already indicated they will be joining in, and I think this is a great opportunity for busy moms to spend a little time on creativity alongside the children. We have everyone from the littlest artists to older teens and adults participating. An ATC card is very small and non-intimidating, but the results can be so lovely. I think it’s also a good chance to demonstrate to our children that our artwork doesn’t have to match some external idea of perfection in order to be beautiful. Everyone is welcome to participate, but everyone should be encouraged to do his or her best For All the Saints.

Each card should be labeled on the back with the creator’s name (last name is optional) and however much info you’d like to share – age (for the kids J), date, title of the piece, media used, your hometown or state or country, email address etc. In the last swap, some participants indicated they would like to connect with other swappers for email correspondence or pen pals. Whatever info you feel comfortable providing is fine.

Send your cards to me, postmarked by Friday November 5th. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope so I can send your new set of cards to you. If you have several family members participating, you can of course send them all to me in one big envelope. It’s up to you how you do your return envelopes – if you want each child to receive their own piece of mail then include a self addressed stamped envelope for each, or you can have one large envelope for the family if you’d like to save on postage.

Please send cards to:

Kimberlee Kadar-Kallen

6439 McCormick Lane

Harrisburg, PA 17111

· Feel free to share the swap on your blogs or other sites by linking to my blog post. If someone wishes to participate they should send me an email and I will send them my address and these instructions. Please do not post all these details or my home address anywhere online! J

After the Marian swap in May some people posted their new cards on their blogs and requested a link-up so they could find other people's blogs and cards as well - I will probably do that again this time.

I do hope to make these two swaps annual events.

Please email if you have any questions and thank you so much for participating!

Blessings,

Kimberlee

Public Thanks

Well--maybe not too public. I want to let you all know that 3 families had a FABULOUS time at Stacy's house on All Saints Eve. Stacy, you and Digby were gracious and fun hosts to us and all our children! Thank you so much! John especially appreciated someone who could truly enjoy a "good flat stout." God Bless the British!!

Next big social event is first Sunday of Advent pot luck party at my place, Sunday Nov 28 4-8, including entertainment, Christmas (Advent) Carols, and the wreath lighting. Lots of fun for all ages!
